Sullivan:
US air strikes on PKK and IRGC
The
US is appeasing Iran and Iran’s PKK allies while preparing
to confront Turkey. Such is the inescapable conclusion following
Erdogan-Bush Summit.
A careful assessment of the Erdogan-Bush summit indicates that
Bush remains hostile to Turkey and sympathetic to the PKK-Iran
Axis that seeks to partition Iraq. Bush made only two modest
assistance offers to Turkey. Each offer raised more questions
than answers.
First,
Bush repeated his offer to share intelligence with Turkey pertaining
to PKK attacks against Turkey. Bush’s offer
implies that the US has been withholding such intelligence from
Turkey until now despite US obligations within NATO and despite
bilateral counterterrorism agreements to share such intelligence
with Turkey.
Second, published reports refer to the establishment of coordinating
mechanism between the US and Turkey for conducting joint operations
against the PKK.
In
reality, the US-Turkish coordinating mechanism is no more than
a hotline,
or more accurately a US phone number. In other
words, Turkey received the brush-off from the US. As they say
in Hollywood, “don’t call me, I’ll call you.
The extent of the US brush-off of Turkey became evident when
General Petraeus was named as the US point of contact. For the
Turkish military, GEN Petraeus is pro-Kurdish. He approved without
question the PKK military buildup in northern Iraq. He also approved
granting the Kurdish peshmerga the status of an independent military
force that is answerable only to Kurdish president Barzani.
In addition to a long record of collaboration with the Kurds,
GEN Petraeus has a long record of collaboration with Iranian
Revolutionary Guards and their front groups in Iraq such as the
Badr Brigade, who are conducting terrorist attacks on US forces
in Iraq. Indeed, GEN Petraeus has made the Badr Brigade his primary
military partner in Iraq.
In fact, just two days ago GEN Petraeus announced that he would
soon release nine of the 20 IRGC personnel now in US custody.
Let’s
get to the point. The US should not be releasing IRGC personnel.
The US should be conducting mass arrests of IRGC
personnel and deporting them to Iran.
The
US decision to release the IRGC personnel represents nothing
more than
US appeasement of Iran despite Iran’s plan to
support the PKK and to partition Iraq with the PKK at the first
available opportunity. For details on Iranian plans to partition
Iraq, see the interview ‘Iraq’s al-Hakim Discusses
proposed South Central Federation,” Aaswat.com, 23 October
07. Hakim is an Iranian puppet and is the US’s top political
partner in Iraq.
To put the issue another way, just three weeks ago Bll Kristol
stated the US was at war with Iran in Iraq. Kristol called for
US airstrikes against IRGC training camps in Iran for Iraqi volunteers.
Meanwhile, other US voices were suggesting US airstrikes against
the PKK in northern Iraq.
In the real world, the US military is doing just the opposite.
The US is essentially providing air cover for PKK and IRGC operations
against Turkey and other states.
In sum, President Bush has convinced the world that he wants
war with Iran. Not true. The US wants and is preparing for war
with Turkey on behalf of the PKK, Barzani and Talabani. Here
is an appeal to Bill Kristol. You must call upon President Bush
to attack the PKK and the IRGC, not protect the PKK and IRGC!
