Subject: REF: Hands off Venezuela??

Dear Editor of “The Petroleum World”,

After reading the annexed article where London’s Mayor Ken Livingston makes a public press declaration demonstrating his ignorance of reality over what goes on in Venezuela, by saying that the Bush Administration should keep its hands off Venezuela. I must respond in defence of democracy in Venezuela, or what’s left of it, to this Mayor whose naïveté attitude is the least to be desired, that he should document himself before on the situation or at least be briefed by a non communist on what the real situation is.

I am offended that such a high ranking British official should assume a defence of a delinquent behaved President, like Hugo Chavez in detriment of democracy and liberty of the Venezuelan people. Must he ignore the plight of the Cuban rafts men as well, so as to get a picture of what Chavez is trying to instate in Venezuela, in an identical political situation of that of Cuba? – Is Mr. Livingston a slave merchant in the 21st century, may I ask? In synthesis communism is slavery, slavery and of the worst kind.

Since when one may also ask, does a London Mayor intervene in another countries political situation? Since when does this British Official make demands on another nation whose safety is affected by a delinquent attitude by Hugo Chavez, to stay out of Venezuela? Since when does Mr.Livingston make such bold declarations to the press? One can only wonder and conclude that Mr. Livingston is on the Hugo Chavez payroll then.

This communist regime of Hugo Chavez is notorious for lobbying internationally in his favour, using the oil revenue for such ends. It is a disgusting procedure, but the good part is that it is showing the corruption of some foreign officials abroad from Venezuela, and the greed that they have for outside money. The British Government should investigate this man.

I would further appreciate if a copy of this letter be sent to Mayor Livingston, since it is us the Venezuelan people who are “ordering” him to stay out of Venezuela. Please also send a copy to any London newspaper as well. We have a right to protest such political outburst.

Thank you for your attention to same.

Very sincerely,

Juan José Herrera

Hands off Venezuela, London mayor tells US

AFP
LONDON
Petroleumworld.com 02 20 06

London's Mayor Ken Livingstone told the United States on Saturday to keep its hands off Venezuela, in a spirited defence of the Latin American nation's president Hugo Chavez.

Writing in the Morning Star, a small British socialist newspaper, Livingstone accused the Bush administration in Washington of trying to undermine democracy in Venezuela.

"In reality, Venezuela today is one of the most democratic countries in the entire world," Livingstone said, recalling that eight national votes since 1998 have affirmed the legitimacy of Chavez's administration.

"The great majority of the people of Venezuela continue to live in very harsh conditions, but it is hugely encouraging to see, at the start of the 21st century, a government committed to the democratic and social transformation of one of the most important countries in Latin America and the Caribbean."

"They should be allowed to carry out the democratically expressed wishes of their people without further interference from George Bush's administration," added the mayor, a self-described socialist nicknamed "Red Ken".

Livingstone added: "London will certainly be extending the hand of friendship to Caracas, Venezuela's capital city, and we will make clear our support for their right to determine their own future."

The chill between Caracas and Washington continued Friday when Chavez warned that he was taking potential steps to cut off oil shipments to the United States, in the event Washington goes too far campaigning against his rule.

Just the day before, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called Chavez a "challenge to democracy" and said Venezuela's close ties with communist Cuba were "a particular danger" in Latin America.
