Sirs,

In an article debunking reports about Islamic extremist connections in
Venezuela which was published by counterpunch and reprinted in
petroleumworld, Larry Leupp makes some serious accusations against me,
misrepresents my political affiliations and professional status.

He accuses me, among other things, of spreading disinformation, implying
that I am the intellectual author of threats to assassinate president Chavez
made by Pat Robertson. He also uses little more than rhetoric or epithets
like "fascist shit" to refute information which I have attained through
painstaking field research.

Mr Leupp, counterpunch and petroleumworld are quite entitled to their views
and editorial policy. But, I request the opportunity to respond to these
allegations through an article that I will write for publication in both
your magazines.

I would far rather clear my name and reputation in this way than resort to
legal channels although I am quite prepared to pursue the latter if forced
to do so.
