Scott Sullivan: How Obama will co-opt US rightists
Inspired by Richard M. Nixon, President Obama will co-opt US rightists with two bold moves in national security affairs.
To begin, Obama will call on US rightists to endorse a strong Federal role in US health care on national security grounds. President Obama will argue that Federal support for heath benefits for US workers is sound policy because it strengthens patriotic forces within the US prolerariat.
President Obama could build his right wing support by appealing directly to America’s high income blue collar workers -- one of President Nixon'x favorite right wing group. Obama shall remind US rightists that Nixon courted the high income blue collar workers because they are strongly patriotic and pro-US empire.
President Obama shall focus his appeal to these high income blue collar US workers on three health care objectives.
First, Obama will promise these workers that Federal oversight -- via the Department of Labor, if necessary -- will preserve the integrity of their existing union health care plans. These union plans are among the best in the nation. The unions achieved these health care gains under collective bargaining agreements in the 1990s. US management made generous concessions to union members in the area of health care when they were not in a position to make wage concessions.
Second, Obama shall promise US workers newly enrolled in health care programs, especially those in the automobile and other undustries in the southern states, that the goal of Federal oversight will be to assure that southern health care plans will be brought into line with northern health care plans, espeially in the foreign-owned enterprises.
Third, Obama will assure US workers that the Federal role in health care protect US national security interests. Thus, all health care issues in the hands of state and local government or the private sector relating to Homeland Security will face intense Federal scrutiny.
In addition to heath care issues, Obama shall assert his solidarity with US rightists on the need to deter today’s Nazis and fascists in Germany, Iran, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Cuba.
In this regard, Obama shall apologize to the US right wing for ignoring the resurgent Nazi and fascist threat in Latin America, represented by Hugo Chavez and Mahoud Ahmadinejad.
Obama will then call on Brazilian President Lula da Silva to take the lead on deterring Latin America’s Nazis, Fascists and Trotskyites. Obama will take advantage of the fact that Brazil wants to become the hegemonic power in South America.
Obama can ask Lula to begin can begin his campaign for regional leaderhip by chastising Chavez, Morales and Ortega for supporting Iranian terrorism in Latin America. In addition, Lula shall call Ahmadinejad to dismantle Iran’s terrorist bases in Latin America and withdraw Iranian terrorists.
Moreover, Lula shall call upon Ahmadinejad to deliver former Iranian president Rafsanjani to Argentina so that he can provide evidence to the official investigation of Iranian militants in Argrntine terrorism in the 1990’s. Finally, Lula will counsel restraint to the Trotskyites and ultra-leftists in Nicaragua and Cuba.
Lula need not take Obama’s word alone that Iran and its terrorist allies in Latin America must be stopped. Lula can ask the national security leadership in Russia and China, who are beginning to lose sleep with because so many Che Guevara wannabees are at loose in Latin America promoting anti-Gringo revolutions as well as ethnic conflicts between Hispanics and Incas.
So, it is time for the US right wingers to join Obama in fighting this Nazi, fascist, and Trotskyite pestilence, before all of Latin America goes up in flames. It is also time for the US rightists to support Obama’s national security health care reforms. We are all Nixon Republicans and Maoists today!
