PW: Hondurans: A deal !

The factual government of Honduras lead by Roberto Micheletti, and the depose government of Mr. Zelaya, signed an historic agreement late Thursday, that would pave the way for the Honduras Congress to restore Mr. Zelaya to the presidency and allow to carry on with the schedule constitutional presidential elections November 29 and end the crisis.

“The accord allows a vote in Congress on Zelaya’s possible restitution with the prior approval of the Supreme Court,” Mr. Micheletti said in televised comments late Thursday. “This is a significant concession on the part of our government.”

“We are satisfied,” Mr. Zelaya said, according to Reuters. “We are optimistic that my reinstatement is imminent.” NYT reported.

The important of this signature is the dialog that took place trough several weeks of negotiations between two Hondurans groups to solve the crisis. At the end a little help from a team of senior American diplomats who flew from Washington to the Honduran capital on Wednesday, lead by the U.S. assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs, help the two antagonistic groups to sit down and finalize the weeks of hard discussions.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said on the agreement “an historic agreement.” “I cannot think of another example of a country in Latin America that, having suffered a rupture of its democratic and constitutional order, overcame such a crisis through negotiation and dialogue ” .

Today, final details will be work out by Zelaya's and Micheletti's representatives to insure a smooth transition, hopefully the wrinkles will be iron out, paving the way for Hondurans congress vote and approve the deal, Zelaya will return to by be constitutional president and elections at the end of the month will elect a new president. Bottom line, the constitution and the people of Honduras will be serve.
