PW : Is Hugo Chavez dangerous ?
This week Hugo Chavez has to confront with a mounting pile of evidence that the venezuelan government under his administration has been helping terrorist and narco guerrillas movements to create destabilization on the American continent. Here are some of the facts:
PW Top News today, Spain demanded Monday, that Venezuela answer charges it helped Basque separatist group ETA and Colombian rebels plot to kill Colombia's president in Spain." Eloy Velasco, Judge of the Audiencia Nacional in Madrid, a Spanish National Court, alleged Monday that the Venezuelan government had collaborated with Basque separatist group ETA and Colombia's main guerrilla group in a plot against leaders living in or traveling to Spain that began in late 2003. "The There is diligence at work in these proceedings that makes evident Venezuelan government cooperation in the illicit cooperation between the FARC and ETA."
March 1st, The U.S State Department released a International Narcotics Control Strategy Report that said "There is strong evidence that some elements of Venezuela’s security forces directly assist these FTOs (foreign terrorist organizations).”
Last week the OAS the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) issued a report regarding Hugo Chavez government violations of human rights and intimidation of citizens in Venezuela based on their political beliefs.
Yesterday, U.S. Sens. Dick Lugar (R-IN) and Chris Dodd (D-CT) call for U.S. Mission to the OAS to ask for discussion of ‘Venezuela Democracy and Human Rights’ Report at the Permanent Council.
In July of 2009, The United States Government Accountability Office ( GAO) issue a Report to the Ranking Member, Committee on Foreign Relations, U.S. Senate charging Venezuela with helping Colombia's guerrilla groups. “According to U.S. and Colombian officials, Venezuela has extended a lifeline to Colombian illegal armed groups by providing significant support and safe haven along the border. As a result, these groups, which traffic in illicit drugs, remain viable threats to Colombian security. A high level of corruption within the Venezuelan government, military, and other law enforcement and security forces contributes to the permissive environment, according to U.S. officials.”
Hugo Chavez responses to this accusations are : "Venezuela reject the accusations as unacceptable and politically motivate" Chavez said on Monday. Chavez has mantain that all this reports are "biased and unfounded." just fabrication "to discredit Venezuela."
The pile of cards are face up on the table, who do you to belive ?
