Patrick Duddy was sworn in as ambassador to Venezuela on Thursday, August 9th. During the swearing in, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice praised Ambassador's Duddy work in the region and highlighted that Venezuela and the United States have many areas in which they could cooperate in the future. In attendance were Ambassador Duddy's family, friends and co-workers, as well as guests such as the Venezuelan Ambassador to the United States, Bernardo Alvarez Herrera. Prior to assuming his position as Deputy Assistant Secretary in August 2005, Patrick Duddy served as U.S. Consul General in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service holding the personal rank of Minister Counselor, Mr. Duddy has also served at U.S. embassies in Chile, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Paraguay and Panama, as well as in Washington, DC.
Originally from the state of Maine, Mr. Duddy received his undergraduate degree from Colby College and a master’s degree from Northeastern University. He is also a graduate of the National War College where he received a master’s degree in National Security Strategy.
