World's leadership

The big news is from France where President Sarkozy is now comfortable enough in his presidency that he is taking France on a new tack...back toward the US and toward a position once again of French importance on the world scene. Sarkozy, moving rather swiftly away from the policies of Mr. Chirac and Mr. de Villepan, said rather clearly that France finds it "unacceptable" that Iran is moving to become a nuclear power. It is now " unacceptable" that Iran may soon blackmail Europe on
issues of political and economic importance if it becomes a nuclear power, and there Sarkozy is drawing the line. Sarkozy envisions a Europe that can, and must, end all financial relations with Teheran, freeze Iranian assets abroad, stop allowing Iran to use its puppet governments in the Middle East to wage war against Israel, and face its obligations in the world. France, the US' most obvious " allied" foe in the past several years, is now moving swiftly toward US/French hegemony, and because of France's recalcitrance in the past, her new positions shall now become the most listened to by other nations. Two cheers at least for Mr. Sarkozy then, with the third, as always, held in abeyance for future delivery if warranted.
