TT's countdown

993.051 voters will go to the polls in Trinidad & Tobago in a general election to elect new representatives who will form a new goverment, and it comes down to three choices. Patrick Manning, leader of The People's National Movement (PNM) wants the PNM to have a consecutive term in office. Basdeo Panday, co leader of The United National Congress Alliance (UNC-Alliance) wants to return to govern and Winston Dookeran, the political leader of The Newborn Congress of the People (COP) is asking for its party to have a chance. The stakes boils down to control the coffers of a country with an the energy-driven economy that between 2002-2006 has double the growth of the economy from US$9 billion in 2001 to US$18.3 billion in 2006 while per capita income increased from US$7,100 in 2002 to US$14,790 in 2006.
