Less
oil from Russia?
In the beginning of 2008 the transit of Russian oil through Gdansk
will drop considerably. Naftoport in Gdansk is one of the most
important centres for oil exports in the Baltic Sea region. The
raw material is transported through the Druzhba pipeline and from
Gdansk it is distributed worldwide. The supply schedule is drawn
up by the Russian state concern Transnyeft, a monopolist in the
supplies for Russian pipelines. In the first quarter of 2008 Transnyeft
intends to transport 1.03 million tonnes of oil through Gdansk,
less than half of what it shifted in the last quarter of 2007,
when the Polish terminal exported 2.1 million tonnes of the resource.
There will be no oil shortages at Polish refineries - Transnieft
intends to introduce a small increase in the supplies for Plock
and Gdansk, as well as the oil transported through Poland to Germany.
With the decline of Russian exports, the Polish Naftoport has a
chance to service larger supplies from other countries whose tax
offices are less greedy. Last week Putin and Kazakhstan president
Nursultan Nazarbayev agreed to increase the Kazakh oil exports
through Russia from 10 to 20 million tonnes. \nc 04005000 \nc 04015000
