"Teflon President"
Just
two weeks ahead of presidential elections, scandal has once more
enveloped Brazilian politics. Brazil’s president, Luiz Inácio
Lula da Silva, dubbed the “Teflon president” has been
accused of dubious campaign tactics against nearest rival, former
São Paulo governor Geraldo Alckmin. Lula has denied all
accusations and points to his impressive lead in the polls as
his defense. A recent poll showed Lula’s support on 50%
ahead of Alckmin on 29%. Although analysts don’t believe
the most recent scandal will stop Lula being reelected on October
1, they say it may cause him problems further down the line passing
reform through Congress.
