Obama's response
ON THE POLITICAL FRONT, those on the Left took us to task yesterday for “forgetting” that George Bush took two days to respond to the “Shoe Bomber”
over the Christmas holiday of ’01. We had indeed forgotten that it took the President two days to respond to the problem, and indeed it had. This was the first such episode, and it did indeed catch the White Houseoff guard, requiring the Staff to assemble the information regarding the attack and to make the
appropriate response. First such episodes are always more difficult to understand and deal with than are second and third such, and we are willing to grant the Bush Administration time to assimilate the information regarding this terrorist attack. We would also expect subsequent Administrations to make their responses to the same sorts of attacks more swiftly than previous attempts. Nonetheless, President Bush did take a day or two to respond and we must needs acknowledge that fact. He did, however, respond with coat and tie,
looking Presidential when he did so.
Regarding the Islamists so intent upon killing Westerners, the attack upon the Danish cartoonist, Mr. Kurt Westergaard, over the holiday by a crazed Islamic terrorist in the quiet Danish town of Aarhus, remains inexplicable in the minds of reasonable men and women. To have run into a man’s house, wielding an ax and a large knife, threatening Mr. Westergaard and his five year old granddaughter in the name of “Revenge” is simply beyond us. It makes no sense. These are true madmen.
