France vs. Croacia: The Key numbers ahead of World Cup 2018 final

1

This is Croatia's first World Cup final. Zlatko Dalic's men are also the first team to reach the final after going to extra time in each of their three knockout stages since the Round of 16 was introduced in 1986.

2

Croatia beat Denmark and Russia on penalties and England after extra time in the semifinal.

3

Croatia are only the third newcomers in a World Cup final in the last 40 years. In the previous two occasions, France and Spain both ended up winning their first appearance in 1998 and 2010 respectively.

4.2

With a population of just 4.2 million, Croatia is the smallest nation in a World Cup final since Uruguay played Brazil at the Maracana in 1950. La Celeste shocked the overwhelming favorites and Croatia will hope for a similar outcome on Sunday.

19

Kylian Mbappe's age. The Paris Saint-Germain forward wasn't even born when France triumphed in the 1998 World Cup on home turf.

20

The number of years since one of the teams in the final came from behind to win the semifinal. France were the last team to do so when they defeated Croatia 2-1 in 1998.

27

Years since Croatia gained independence from Yugoslavia at the end of a bloody war. Croatia's manager, Zlatko Dalic, was born in the now-defunct Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The country was renamed Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992 and then Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1997.

40

The number of years since a player who played for Inter Milan and Bayern Munich was not in a World Cup final. In 1978, with the exception of Valencia's Mario Kempes and Alberto Tarantini, who was a free agent, all of Argentina's players plied their trade at home. Wim Suurbier, Holland's only Germany-based player, played for Schalke 04.

161

The number of goals scored in the 2018 World Cup with two games remaining, giving the tournament an average of 2.6 goals per game. This year's edition, however, is still 10 goals short than the all-time record achieved in 1998 and 2014.

988

The cost in U.S. dollars of the most expensive ticket available to the public for Sunday. They are all sold out.

81,000

The capacity of the Luzhniki Stadium which will host the final on Sunday.
