Breaking: GE Spinoff
General Electric said it will spin off its health-care business and unload its ownership in oil-services company Baker Hughes—betting that the once-sprawling conglomerate, already planning to shed numerous businesses, can reverse a painful slump by further shrinking. The news confirmed an earlier report by The Wall Street Journal. The leaner GE's focus will be its power, aviation and renewable-energy businesses. The company's yearlong strategic review has been tumultuous for employees and investors, as the former industrial bellwether has slashed its dividend and seen its shares tumble by half. |
