BHP to export US oil without permit



BHP Billiton plans to export ultralight oil from the US without getting formal approval from Washington, opening a new outlet for booming shale energy production.

The global mining and energy group's decision shows how oil companies are finding ways around government foot-dragging over awarding new permits for exports of minimally processed oil.

Two other companies surprised oil markets earlier this year when they said they had received government permission to export ultralight oil, known as condensate, after basic processing through a distillation tower. Traders believed this signalled a loosening of four-decade-old restrictions on US crude oil exports.
