The author could have made his point in one paragraph. His point is that Bush has been engaged in a good faith and largely succcessful effort to gain Iranian of acceptance of a large scale and quasi-permament US military presence in Iraq and certain Gulf states. Thanks to this US military presence the US would block Iranian hegemonism. Thanks to president Bush, the Iranian threat to the region would recede. US policy under Bush could be defined by one word -- RESOLVE.

Nonsense. US policy can be better defined by a different word -- APPEASEMENT. The goal of US policy was and is to make concession after concession to Iran in the hope Iran would assist with a face-saving withdrawal of US forces from Iraq. Unfortunately for Bush, Iran does not want to play along bwith Bush's game. Hitler Germany did not want concessionsf from France and the UK. Hitler wanted war with France and the UK so he coukd wipe out the shame of WWI, restore German's rightful postion as the ruler of Europe, and destroy Bolshevik Russia. In word, Hitler wanted VICTORY, as does Ahmadinejad

Meanwhile, the US continues to retreat from and appease Iran. The latest and most craven US policy (may Bush roast in Hell for this) is the US-approved invitation from Iraq for Ahmadinejad to visit Baghdad. Ahmadinejad wants to dance his "victory jig" in Baghdad just has Hitler did in Paris, 1940. Ahmadinejad wants to signal the region that Iran, not Bush, is in charge of Iraq. Bush will fulfill Ahmadiejad's wishes.
