Dear David MacLean,
We choose the articles we publish on the basis of the interest the readers might have in the theme. This is exactly what I'm sure interest our reader at this moment.
I must said that you are correct when you said that oil sand is very competitive with Venezuelan crude.
Venezuelan Syncrude is a medium 32 API crude that sells very well all over the world and compete inclusive with other conventional crude and non-conventional crude including Canadians, but there is no need for Canadians to worry about too much about Venezuelan extra heavy oil crude, they are finding markets in Asia, and reducing market share in the US.
The present Venezuelan policy is to have less dependency in the US market to sale our crude and redirect the efforts to find new markets in Asia and Latin America. So, Canadians are the one that are most happy with Venezuela's new oil export market policy.
