Dear Theresa
B,
the
news bulletin of 19 Dec, reproduced by petroleumworld 20 Dec,
mentions that production capacity of "Boyacá block"
is
35 000 million
barrels oil per day, which is absolutely impossible. Perhaps you
refer to volume in the reservoir. The evaluation area arbitrarily
delineated by Petróleos de Venezuela in 1977 and assigned
to Maraven, 30 years later revitalised and renamed "Boyacá",
contains six blocks which in fact faithfully reproduce the main
producing area Zuata of the Orinoco Belt field. Development of
crude oil is currently limited to four joint ventures, as you
know; production has been decreased significantly, following instructions
by the Ministry and to comply with OPEC quota agreements of the
past weeks. Each programme in The Belt costs 2500 and 4500 million
USD, which certainly is not what was talked about on site with
Malaysia' Prime Minister.
Faithfully,
Aníbal R Martínez, president, Frente ProDefensa
del Petróleo
According to today's agreement, Petronas would help build production
facilities for extra-heavy crude in Orinoco's 777- square-mile
Boyaca block, which contains reserves capable of producing 35
billion barrels of oil a day, PDVSA said in a statement.
