The export of crude oil from Iraq's southern Gulf terminals resumed
early Tuesday after a 20-hour suspension following bad weather,
an official with the state-owned Southern Oil Company said.
"Crude exports have started since morning today," the
official said.
The two terminals at Khor Amaya and Basra had to halt exports
Monday after being hit by heavy rains, strong winds and a shortage
of electricity, the official said.
Another official from Basra port said that around 80,000 barrels
per hour of crude was being exported since early Tuesday.
Iraq exports around 1.7 million barrels per day from the southern
terminals.
Exports from the south were disrupted late last month, also due
to bad weather.
Last month oil ministry spokesman Assem Jihad said total exports
of Iraqi crude had reached 1.75 million barrels a day with the
reopening of the pipeline to the Turkish terminal of Ceyhan.
Exports from the north restarted on January 16 at a rate of 200,000
barrels a day with hopes of eventually doubling the amount, he
said.
