British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw will hold talks with Saudi officials
in Riyadh next week and take part in a British-Saudi conference, a British
official said Monday.
The second annual "two kingdoms conference," whose first round
was held in London in April last year, will bring together Saudis and
Britons from all walks of life, the official told AFP, requesting anonymity.
They include government officials, business people, academics and journalists
who will swap views over two days, he said.
The exact date of the conference has yet to be announced.
Straw will also hold talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal
on bilateral relations and regional issues, the official said.
Britain has strong economic links with Saudi Arabia and is a major arms
supplier to the oil-rich Gulf kingdom.
British exports to Riyadh reached some 1.6 billion pounds (2.8 billion
dollars) in 2005 while London's investments in Saudi Arabia are worth
around 3.5 billion dollars.
