Luis Vierma, Venezuelan deputy oil minister for production announced
on Sunday reaching an agreement on training his country’s experts
in oil and gas sector by the Iranian specialists.
“Based on
the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Venezuela National
Oil Company (PDVSA) and the Iranian Petropars Company, the Iranian engineers
will train 200 experts and engineers of PDVSA in Venezuela”, said
Vierma, who visited Tehran for a day-long trip.
He explained that
implementation of oil exploration activities in Venezuela’s Rafael
region is the first project being carried out jointly by Iran and Venezuela.
Explaining about
the role of Petropars in this project, he stated that studies are currently
underway, and no oil exploration or production has been conducted in
the region. Based on the results of the studies, the Iranian company
will make decision on participation in the project, he noted, adding,
Petropars will act as the operator, upon reaching an agreement.
Asked whether or
not Venezuela intends to jointly carry out more projects with Iran,
the acting director of PDVSA said his country is to evaluate joint implementation
of two more projects.
He named them as
Iran’s technical assistance in oil exploration and production
with Petropars Company and establishment of a joint advanced engineering
company with SADRA Company. However, no agreement has been signed with
these companies and the MOU is due to be inked in the next weeks, he
noted.
