A freighter carrying more than 300,000 barrels of oil ran aground Thursday
south of the US Caribbean commonweath of Puerto Rico, but there were
no immediate signs of spillage, the US Coast Guard said.
The 227-meter (748-foot) "Margara" set sail from Cartagena,
Colombia and ran aground south of the city of Penuelas, the guard said.
"At this time, there are no reports or signs of pollution associated
with the grounding," the Coast Guard said in a statement, adding:
"There are no reports of any injuries to the Margara's 28-member
crew."
The cause of the grounding was under investigation, the statement added.
