Venezuela plans to add new embassies in Asia as part of its policy to
promote "multi-polarity", a senior diplomat said on Monday.
"We will add to our missions, particularly in southeast Asia,"
said Alcides Rondon, vice minister of foreign affairs for Asia.
The government anticipated before the middle of next year to open diplomatic
missions in Singapore and Thailand, he said.
Rondon, who made his comments at the beginning of scheduled talks with
South Korea, said that Venezuela had recently opened a mission in Vietnam
and would soon launch one in New Zealand.
Venezuela, a harsh critic of US power and influence, believes that the
future of should be shaped by multiple powers instead of a single superpower,
Rondon said.
"In this context, Asia is particularly important for us,"
Rondon said.
