Venezuela's vice president Thursday defended North Korea's right to
undertake missile tests, saying he saw a double standard in Western
condemnation of the move.
"I understand this is not a question of nuclear missiles. They
carried out missile tests. Why should it be bad when (North) Korea does
it and not when the United States or other Western countries do it,"
Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel said to reporters.
North Korean "asserts the right of that any country has to carry
out tests," he said.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who frequently spars with Washington,
has said he may visit the isolated Stalinist state on his next Asian
tour as he promotes a Venezuelan bid for a non-permanent seat on the
UN Security Council.
