North Korea on Wednesday urged Israel to stop attacks on Lebanon and
accused the United States of hypocrisy in turning a blind eye to "barbaric
man-killings" by the Israelis.
A foreign ministry spokesman said Israel's attacks were a "dangerous
act of harassing regional peace and pushing the Mideast into the crucible
of another war."
"Israel should immediately respond to the voices of the Arab countries
demanding it halt at once barbaric genocide, pull back from the occupied
Arab territories and release the Arab prisoners," the spokesman
said.
North Korea has been described by US President George W. Bush as part
of an "Axis of Evil" alongside Iran and Iraq under Saddam
Hussein.
Sales of missiles to Middle East countries including Syria and Iran
have been a top source of hard currency earnings for the impoverished
communist state.
The foreign ministry spokesman, quoted by the official Korean Central
News Agency, criticised the United States for defending Israel's "man-killings
in Lebanon and Palestine, describing them as a measure for self-defence."
"This clearly shows how hypocritical, dangerous and reckless the
Bush administration is as it claims to be an 'apostle of peace' and
'defender of human rights'," the spokesman said.
"The US and Israel had better immediately stop their reckless military
actions that will bring the holocaust of a new war, as demanded by the
Arab countries and the international community."
