The Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) conference and
exhibition scheduled to take place in Stavanger from 22-25 August is
attracting record levels of interest from around the world.
With Rex Tillersen, head of ExxonMobil, has one of the keynote speakers,
the conference auditorium is getting filled with a record level sale
of the ONS 2006 conference. Conference tickets are selling better than
ever, and the number of accredited journalists is 50 per cent higher
than at the same point before the previous event in 2004.
Kjell
Ursin-Smith, managing director of the ONS Foundation, reports that his
organising team has its hands full at the moment as the event heads
toward its best-ever performance.
"This
reflects two factors," observes Mr Ursin-Smith. "The industry
is doing very well, and we have worked purposefully over many years
to make constant improvements to ONS at every level.
"We’ve
acquired a real status as one of the industry’s most important
international meeting places. And this year’s conference programme
is perhaps one of the strongest we have ever presented."
He
has never experienced a better start to registrations for the conference.
A total of 622 delegates have signed up so far, compared with less than
500 at the same time before ONS 2004.
"This
is very gratifying," says Mr Ursin-Smith, and makes no secret of
his satisfaction with the trend.
"In
previous years, sales have not got seriously under way until now,"
he observes. "There are no signs that registrations will tail off
- on the contrary, they look like staying buoyant."
Press
attendance at the show also seems likely to outstrip the record set
in 2004, when 302 journalists from 12 different countries were accredited.
"We’re
noticing very considerable interest, not least from outside Norway.
A total of 125 journalists have applied for accreditation so far, which
is 50 per cent up from the same time in 2004. Eighty per cent of these
are foreigners."
No
comparable oil industry conference and exhibition around the world attracts
as many media representatives as ONS, Mr Ursin-Smith emphasises.
The
ONS exhibition itself was sold out as long ago as last year, with the
oil industry booking stand space as never before. A number of applicants
have had to be placed on the waiting list.
