Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez will pay a brief visit to Luanda on
Thursday where he will hold talks with his Angolan counterpart Jose
Eduardo dos Santos, official media said.
The pair will discuss a series of issues including oil production, the
director of the American Issues Office of the Angolan Foreign Affairs
Ministry, Balbina da Silva, said.
He is the first Venezuelan head of state to visit Angola since the southern
African country's independence from Portugal in 1975, she said.
The two countries are becoming increasingly important players in the
global oil market, with Venezuela producing 3.27 million barrels a day
while Angola is on course to produce two million bpd by 2007.
Other topics expected to be discussed are reform of the United Nations
and the situation in the Middle East, da Silva added.
Chavez has been attempting to drum up support for a rotating seat for
Venezuela on the United Nations Security Council over opposition from
the United States.
