Camilo
Ospina, current ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS)
and ex Defense Minister, said that Venezuela has two mines were it has
plans extract uranium, DPA reported.
The
two mines lie at 400 kilometers to the border on Arauca Department (northeast
Colombia), said Ospina.
Venezuela
has two fronts to work the raw uranium, Ospina said.
"There
are two factories, a bicycle plant and a motorcycle plant. Both of them
are a front to extract uranium," the Ospina, was quoted by Colombian
TV show Noticias Uno.
The
diplomat remarks were made during a conference delivered in a Bogotá
university one and a half month ago, when he was getting ready to travel
to Washington as the Bogotá ambassador before OAS.
The
diplomat expressed concern about Venezuela starting to enrich the uranium
extracted. "It could be a real problem" for Colombia, he said.
"Venezuela
has not the capacity to enrich uranium, but Iran has. If this were to
happen, we will have troubles indeed," the Colombian ambassador
regretted.
Iranian
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is to hold talks next week in Venezuela.
Venezuela's
president Chavez has also backed Iran's controversial nuclear programme
and Tehran's right to enrich uranium, saying that Caracas will stand
by its fellow OPEC member in all circumstances.
