Chile imported $3.82 billion worth of crude oil in the first nine months
of the year, up 32% from $2.68 billion imported during the same period
of last
year, the country's customs service said Thursday.
In
its monthly trade report, the service said that the rise reflected a
27% rise in oil prices while the volume of imports rose 12%. The country's
main suppliers included Angola (28%), Brazil (24%) and Argentina (17%).
The country also imported $1.16 billion worth of diesel oil, up 43%
from
$738 million from last year, as prices rose 32% while volumes rose 19%.
Chile
imported 59% of its diesel from the US, 30% from South Korea and remainder
from Canada.
Meanwhile, imports of natural gas from neighboring Argentina fell 20%
to
$331.4 million, principally due to a drop in volumes as the Buenos Aires
government imposed limits on exports.
