Russia's Gazprom has postponed the start of liquefied natural gas
production from its huge Shtokman gas field in the Barents Sea by at
least two
years for the period after 2013, the company's deputy CEO Alexander
Ananenkov
said Saturday.
LNG production will start after 2012 when the Shtokman field is tapped,
Gazprom's representative Monday quoted Ananenkov as saying in Ufa,
Bashkortostan.
Gazprom had earlier planned to start LNG production from the field in
2011 and was considering the possibility of offering up to 49% in the
project
to foreign partners.
But earlier this month, Gazprom said it would develop the 3.7 trillion
cubic meters field on its own as foreign majors "failed to offer
assets which
would be comparable by their capacity and quality to Shtokman field
reserves,"
according to Gazprom's CEO Alexei Miller at the time.
In September 2005, Gazprom shortlisted five companies, Norway's Norsk
Hydro and Statoil, France's Total, and the US' ConocoPhillips and Chevron.
It
had been expected to choose two or three partners but the decision was
repeatedly postponed.
