BP settles with last plaintiff over Texas refinery blast

British energy giant BP has settled a lawsuit with the last plaintiff seeking compensation for a deadly 2005 Texas refinery blast, a BP spokesman said Thursday.

The BP spokesman, Neil Chapman, did not reveal the terms of the settlement which were approved by a judge at the 212th District Court in Galveston, Texas, earlier Thursday.

Plaintiff Eva Rowe, the daughter of two people killed in the vast blast, had sued BP following the industrial accident.

"We're pleased we have reached a settlement. We deeply regret her terrible loss," the BP spokesman said.

The explosion at BP's Texas City oil refinery in 2005 killed 15 workers and injured 180 others.

US government investigators, who are continuing an ongoing probe into the blast, have said critical equipment at the refinery prior to the blast was "unsafe" and "antiquated."

Rowe's lawyer could not be reached for comment.
