The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate - NPD said Thursday, it has delay
its fourth oil licensing round results, because of unprecendented interest
from oil and gas companies.
Norway's fourth licensing round is to award poil licensies in predefined
areas and the NPD has pushed the announcement of the results to mid-January
from December.
The
Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy that administers the awards
"has decided the APA will be awarded towards mid-January,"
said Johannes Kjode, senior adviser at the NPD, Dow Jones reported.
"It's because there were so many applications. Instead of rushing,
it's better to delay for a few weeks," Kjode added.
A record number of applicants bid for the predefined areas, that include
oil and gas exploration blocks in the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea and
the Barents Sea [ 11-09-06 1128ET ]
The
2006 APA round was announced on Feb. 20, with a total of 192 blocks
or parts of blocks made available, or an area equal to 61,452 square
kilometers.
Of
the 192 blocks, 121 blocks or parts of blocks are located in the more
mature North Sea, 55 in the Norwegian Sea and 24 in the Barents Sea.
