Italian oil group Eni said Friday it had bought five exploration licences
in Mali for areas it planned to develop in partnership with the state-owned
Algerian group Sonatrach.
Eni is to own 50 percent of the operating company, while Sonatrach is
to take 25 percent, with the rest owned by public and private Malian
investors.
The five exploration blocks cover an area of 193,000 square kilometres
(77,200 square miles) about 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) north of the
capital Bamako in the central part of the Taodueni basin, which has
not so far been explored, Eni said.
