The director of a Russian oil industry consultancy firm was shot dead
in Moscow on Tuesday in an apparent contract killing, the ITAR-TASS
news agency reported.
Zelimkhan Magomedov, 50, head of the National Oil Institute Fund, was
killed with two shots to the head in southwest Moscow, ITAR-TASS reported.
"A criminal investigation for a contract killing has been opened,"
Svetlana Petrenko, an official at the Moscow prosecutor's office, was
quoted as saying.
The fund was set up in 2003 and supports the development of small and
medium-sized enterprises in the oil and gas industry, providing analysis
and consultancy services, according to its website.
Magomedov's death is the latest in a series of apparent contract killings
in Moscow in recent months, including those of investigative reporter
Anna Politkovskaya and the deputy head of the Russian Central Bank,
Andrei Kozlov.
