Chevron today announced that the company begun seismic operation on December 1st for its Plataforma Deltana Block 3.

“We are very optimistic that the results of this seismic will provide the data that will allow us to continue our offshore Venezuela exploration successes in support to Chevron’s upstream strategy”, said Ali Moshiri, President of Chevron Latin America Upstream.

“The ongoing success of Block 2 and Block 3 exploration activities will play an important role in the development of natural gas from Plataforma Deltana”, he added.

This seismic activity is aimed to advance in the company’s plans, jointly with Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), to evaluate Venezuela’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, which is planned to be constructed as part of the CIGMA Project in Güiria, State of Sucre.

The Macuira 1X, Chevron’s first well in Block 3, encountered six gas intervals with total gross thickness of 456 feet (140 meters) in June 2005.
Chevron operates Plataforma Deltana Block 3 (100 %) and Block 2 (60%). PDVSA will determine its interest upon declaration of commerciality.

Chevron’s activities in Venezuela include exploration and production of oil and gas, and the commercialization and marketing of Texaco products. Through the Texaco brand, Chevron has a national network of 83 Texaco service stations and sells lubricants for motor vehicles and industrial customers. Through Chevron Oronite, the company also provides integral technical support in the sale of lubricants and fuel additives.

Chevron’s Latin American Headquarters are based in Caracas and a high percentage of its local personnel are Venezuelan nationals who provide support to the company’s operations in the country and throughout the Latin American region.

Chevron Corporation is one of the world’s leading energy companies. With more than 53,000 people working in approximately 180 countries, the company produces and transports crude oil and natural gas, and refines, sells and distributes fuel and other energy products. Company Headquarters are in San Ramón, California.
