State-owned National Gas Co. (NGC) Monday said it has concluded
negotiations with a BHP Billiton consortium, EOG Resources and a BG/Chevron
grouping for the supply of 550 million Mcf/d of natural gas beginning
in
2009-2010.
The supplies,
NGC said in a statement, will boost the volume of gas it
sells to over 2.1 Bcf/d by 2010.
The BHP Billiton
consortium will supply 220 million Mcf/d of gas from
either the offshore Block C or the Greater Angostura oil and gas field
where
the joint venture, comprising BHP Billiton, Talisman and Total have
been
producing liquid hydrocarbons since January 2005
.
EOG Resources will supply 110 million Mcf/d of gas from its Block
4a. The
agreement with BG/Chevron is for a gas supply of 220 million Mcf/d
beginning
in 2009. NGC said the deal represents further commercialization of
gas
reservoirs in the East Coast Marine area, which currently supplies
275 million
Mcf/d to NGC under a long-term agreement.
NGC said these
agreements represented a major step forward in meeting the
gas requirements for the next wave of petrochemicals, metals and other
industrial plants scheduled to come on stream in the 2009-2010 period.
