Venezuelan oil company PDVSA is to complete in two weeks repairs at the alkylation unit in eastern 200,000 bpd Puerto La Cruz refinery, after an fire incident last weekend, a spokesman for the refinery said Tuesday.

PDVSA reported last Saturday a fire of "moderate intensity" in the alkylation facilities of the refinery. However, the catalytic cracking unit was fully operational and suffered no damage during the fire. There were no casualties and supply of fuel and other byproducts was normal PDVSA said.

"The unit was officially delivered today (Tuesday) to maintenance. In two weeks it will be ready," the PDVSA spokespman said.

The refinery managing director Fernando Padrón said Monday that the fire was caused by a failure in the power head, resulting in a broken seal and leakage of the flammable liquid.
