Ecuador intends to rejoin OPEC as a full member, Ecuador's President
Rafael Correa told reporters Wednesday.
"Our intention
is to return to OPEC," he said. Correa said Ecuador's
overall plan is to join such blocks of producers. Venezuelan President
Hugo
Chavez has been urging Ecuador to rejoin the producers' cartel. Ecuador
quit
OPEC in the early 1990s.
Correa did not
say when Ecuador would apply to OPEC for a renewal of its
membership.
