The head of Belarus's state oil company Belneftekhim
has been arrested on suspicion of embezzlement as part of a swoop against several
top executives, the state prosecutor announced Wednesday.
"Alexandre Borovski is accused of theft and abuse of his position," the
official, Piotr Miklashevich, told a media conference.
He and other company bosses were detained by agents of the Belarus intelligence
service, who also confiscated large sums of money, he added.
Belneftekhim, a multi-billion-dollar group which owns various petrochemical concerns
in Belarus, accounts for half of the country's exports.
