Calgary-based Petro-Canada is gearing up for gas and oil drilling
in
three offshore blocks in Trinidad and Tobago over the next several
months, a
company spokeswoman said Tuesday.
The company plans to drill four wells targeting natural gas in
block 22,
north of the island of Tobago, Rosemary Drummond said. Petro-Canada
has
contracted the Diamond Ocean Worker for drilling work between July
1 and
December 31.
The company will also drill one well in Block 1b and three wells
in Block
1a off Trinidad's west coast in the Gulf of Paria. Petro-Canada has
contracted the Rowan Gorilla III for hire sometime between July 1
and December
31 for a six-month program targeting gas and oil, she said. Trinidad's
state-owned oil company Petrotrin is partnered with Petro-Canada
in the two
blocks.
Drummond was unable to provide costs for the program.
All the blocks were awarded in a 2003 licensing round and are
Petro-Canada's first operated assets in the twin-island state.
Petro-Canada also has a 17.3% working interest in a natural gas
project
in Trinidad covering the North Coast Marine Area (NCMA-1) operated
by British
Gas. A subsea pipeline runs about 110 kilometers from the Hibiscus
platform to
the Atlantic LNG facility at Point Fortin.
