Brazil's Odebrecht plans to invest $2.57 billion (5 billion reais) in
cane sugar and ethanol production over eight years, the company announced
Wednesday. The move would make the company one of the largest investors in the
ethanol sector, according to a news release issued by Odebrecht.

The mills the company plans to build will have a capacity of 30 million
to 40 million tonnes a year, said Ruy Sampaio, director of investments.

Odebrecht, which controls petrochemical giant Braskem, is active in
construction, mining, oil and gas exploration and production in Africa,
Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.
