Gas giant Linde gets boost from BOC takeover

Linde, the world's leading industrial gas maker, felt a second-quarter boost from the takeover of British industrial gas group BOC, according to results published on Monday.
Net profit in the quarter rose six percent year-on-year to 144 million euros (197 million dollars), while pre-tax profit surged 70 percent to 249 million euros on turnover of three billion euros.
Linde's performance surprised analysts who had been expecting the costs of the BOC takeover to take their toll on the quarterly results.
The acquisition of BOC helped Linde overtake French rival Air Liquide as the leading maker of industrial gases.
