Lukoil not to get special treatment in Iraq: minister

Iraqi Oil Minister Hussein Shahristani cautioned Russia's Lukoil on Thursday that the company would get no special favours in bidding to develop the vast West Qurna 2 oil field.

"The Russian company should compete with the other groups hoping to exploit this field," he told Interfax news agency during a visit to Moscow.

"As Russia has already worked there it could find itself in a better position and make a more competitive bid but it is up to Lukoil to put forward the best terms," Shahristani said.

Lukoil won a contract to develop West Qurna 2 during the former regime of Saddam Hussein but was stripped of the licence in a dispute with Saddam's authorities.
Iraq's new oil law allows the revision of all Saddam-era contracts, Shahristani noted.
