Caribbean nations attend the 3rd
Summit of Petrocaribe Heads of State and Government, August 10-11, with the aim of strengthening
the region’s energy alliance.
The
Energy Summit will begin on Saturday, with
opening remarks by President Hugo Chávez, after
a meeting on Friday of energy ministers
led by Venezuelan
minister
Rafael Ramírez, who is also president of the Venezuelan
oil company PDVSA.
The
summit’s of the so called Petrocaribe Energy
pact is to strengthen
Caribbean regional energy unity and
multilateral
relations
among the pact’s members: Antigua and Barbuda,
Bahamas, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica,
Dominican Republic, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint
Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, Suriname and Venezuela.
Venezuela
is forging alliances on continent,
signing various energy security agreements with several
South American countries.
