Works to reactivate the Camilo
Cienfuegos oil refinery, in the central province of Cienfuegos,
advance according to the schedule of the restoration process
that includes starting tests later this year.
According
to the director of the facility, Jose Manuel Suarez,
the work currently being undertaken in the refinery
will improve the exploitation conditions and maintenance
of the center, which remained under preservation conditions
over the last two decades.
One of the main transformations being carried out is the
replacement of the system of distributed control and the
instruments in the field by digital and electronic technology
aiming at attaining more efficiency.
In the storage area, the structure of tanks is also being
transformed to increase the capacity to store crude oil
and the finished product and also to reduce the eventual
problems caused by storms and to extend the maintenance
cycles of these deposits.
As part of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas,
Venezuela's PDVSA and Cuba's CUPET founded a joint venture
in 2005, which is in charge of the reactivation works in
the refinery.
