The next meeting of ministers for
finances of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries
(OPEC) expected to be carried out in 2009 will be in
Venezuela, the Minister of the People’s Power for
Finances, Rodrigo Cabezas, informed this Tuesday.
The information was given during the ministers for finances
meeting that is currently taking place in Vienna, Austria.
Cabezas
pointed out that the decision was supported by other
OPEC’s country member ministers: Iraq, Kuwait,
Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates,
Iran, Indonesia, Gabon, and Algeria.
Furthermore,
he assured that during the meeting taking place in Vienna “it was approved the incorporation
of Venezuela to the Investment Committee of the OPEC Fund
for International Development (OFIC), formed by Kuwait,
Saudi Arabia, and Iran. Venezuelan Government made the
proposal last June”.
Vice-minister for Finances, Rafael Isea, will be the Venezuelan
representative to OFIC, Cabezas said.
“We conquered an important space inside the organization,
most of all for Latin America, because we want (OPEC) to
look a little more to the region”, he emphasized.
