Venezuela's
biggest coal producer, Carbones del Guasare,
has lifted a force majeure on exports after
workers ended a transport strike and supplies
resumed, the company's president said on
Tuesday.
The company in the western, energy-rich state of Zulia
is controlled by the state company Carbozulia and has as
minority owners Peabody Energy (BTU.N: Quote, Profile,
Research) and Anglo American (AAL.L: Quote, Profile, Research).
It operates the Diablo mine.
"The dispute itself has been resolved, the force
majeure lifted and we are operating normally," company
president Helcias Benaim said in a telephone interview.
Carbones del Guasare declared force majeure when transport
workers ferrying coal began a stoppage on Thursday to demand
higher pay. The strike lasted two days but the company
did not lift its force majeure until Monday, Benaim said.
Carbones del Guasare says it produces 6.8 million tonnes
a year for electricity and steel plants across the world.
