Four oil majors -- BP, Esso, Shell and Total
-- were cleared Tuesday on charges of storing fuel in dangerous conditions at
France's third biggest airport, in the Riviera city of Nice.
The firms were accused of endangering airport safety by storing kerosene in tankers
parked on site, due to a lack of proper facilities.
But the court ruled that no immediate risk of death of injury could be established,
and that there was no evidence the oil firms had deliberately violated safety
rules.
The regional chamber of commerce, accused of turning a blind eye to the situation,
was also cleared in the case.
