Ecuador's President Rafael Correa will travel to the upcoming OPEC summit in Saudi Arabia, where his country will rejoin the oil cartel, then visit China and Indonesia, officials announced here.

The 12-member Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries meets in the Riyadh November 17-18.

Foreign Affairs vice minister of Rafael Paredes, who made the announcement on Monday, said that after the summit Correa would be in China November 19-24, then travel on to Indonesia.

Ecuador belonged to the oil-exporting cartel for 19 years, and withdrew in 1992.
It will be the second Latin American country in OPEC, after founding member Venezuela.

Ecuador produces some 507,000 barrels of crude a day, making it the fifth largest South American producer. Of those, 340,200 barrels a day are exported.

OPEC leaders last met together in Caracas in 2000, the second such meeting after a 1975 summit in Algiers.
