Mexico's PRI nays oil privatization

MEXICO CITY
Petroleumworld.com, Mar 03, 2008

Mexico's PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party) leader Beatriz Paredes affirmed Friday her organization will defend the country's heritage, and will categorically reject privatization of the oil industry.

After meeting with 17 state governors affiliated to PRI, Paredes stressed that her party will not change its basic guidelines to suit the energy reform encouraged by the government.

She called to make the best use of national hydrocarbons, and emphasized that any pronouncement on proposed privatization must be consensual

Paredes noted PRI supports improving the use of hydrocarbons and greater efficiency for the benefit of Mexicans, but they will not allow PEMEX privatization, alluding to accusations of alleged secret deals with the government.
